The history of Mussoorie dates back to 1827 when a young and adventurous military officer, Captain Young chanced upon this wonderful place. The place simply mesmerized him with its beauty and it was from then onwards that Mussoorie gained importance as a getaway resort. At Mussoorie you will get all the facility and amusement that you want. The place also acts as a base camp to many a challenging destinations like Yamunotri and Gangotri.

Kempty Fall - Mussoorie

At an altitude of 1370 m from the sea level and almost 15 km away from Mussoorie, you will have the opportunity to see one of the finest waterfalls in India. From a great height water cascades down a hill and dives straight into a plunge pool. A narrow winding stair will lead you to the plunge pool and the view of the waterfall from the very bottom is breathtaking. There is dense vegetation in the area and you will surely love the rippling cascade.

Sir George Everest House - Mussoorie

Sir George Everest was the first Surveyor General of India and it was after him that the highest mountain peak in the world was named. He lived at Park Estate and both the laboratory and the building still stand. The place offers a picturesque view of the Doon Valley. The snow bound Himalayan range and the beautiful Yamuna valley is just the perfect place for adventure sports like trekking and leisure tours like picnic.

Cloud End - Mussoorie

This is beautiful place is a favorite among tourists and especially popular among honeymooners. The hotel that you will presently find started as a bungalow built by a British Major in the year 1838. The place is enveloped by dense deodar forest and has an extremely calm and peaceful atmosphere. Quite a variety of flora and fauna is found here.

Gun Hill - Mussoorie

This is the second highest peak in Mussoorie. The hill offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan range like the Srikantha, Pitwara and Gangotri. The hill has a piece of history associated with it. During the colonial rule, the hill had a gun mounted on top of it. Everyday at mid-day, the gun was fired from atop the hill so that people could adjust their watches accordingly. It is at a distance of 400 m and can be accessed by a ropeway. You can also walk to the spot and it will take no more than only 20 minutes.

Mall Road - Mussoorie

Located in the heart of Mussoorie, the mall is all that is left of the benches and lamps filled with modern shops, video games and skating rinks. You might find author Ruskin Bond browsing a bookshop in Cambridge. There are many local vendors including photographers who can take amazing photos. Lal Tibba - Mussoorie

The Lal Tibba area was occupied for a long time, served as a summer retreat during the British-Raj, and served as an army recovery center, making it famous as a cantonment cum airport. It is currently used by the Indian Army. In the form of a small terrace, La Tibba offers a fascinating view of the Tibetan border. The place is relaxing and has remnants of British architecture.

Jharipani Falls - Mussoorie

6km downstream from Mussoorie in Jharipani village are Jaripani Falls. It is a small waterfall that comes out of the monsoon and looks like a trickling stream at other times of the year. The main point of Jharipani landing is a 1.5 km walk from the station. On a clear day, the views of the nearby peaks and valleys are impressive, especially when the sky is painted pink at sunset. Mussoorie also has popular boarding schools namely St George's, Wynberg Allen and Oakgrove in Jharipani area.

Camel's Back Road - Mussoorie

Located in the heart of Mussoorie, the Camel Back Trail is a three-kilometer trail with natural rock formations in the shape of camel grass. It overlooks the Doon valley and offers a spectacular view of the Himalayas. It is also a popular place to watch the sunrise and sunset. A long walk on this trail or an early morning run is the best way to discover what this beautiful trail has to offer. There is also a 180-year-old British cemetery, the first of its kind in Mussoorie, at Camel Back Road.

Mussoorie City

The best time to visit Mussoorie is the summer season as it allows for warm summer temperatures. However, if you want a special holiday, come here in winter to see the snow season. The nearest Dehradun airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun (82 km). Taxis are available at the airport. The nearest railway station is Dehradun (68 km). Dehradun is well connected by road. Take the Tehri road from Mussoorie and take the Mussoorie-Chamba road.
